If you understand why the line opens where it does, moves like it does, and closes where it closes you will go along way towards picking more winners and avoiding some of the many losers.

I disagree with the posts about sharp lines and parity, this is not why bettors lose. Further, lines are not as sharp as everyone thinks, the markets (like NBA) are still a bit immature. Picking winners is not the hard part, it's breaking down all the human qualities that the markets exploit to their gain and turning the tables to be better than the average market as a whole.

You have to play smart but not necessarily smarter than the books, just smarter than the rest of the players in the marketplace.
