Back in the 90's after Yahoo bought his business for way too much, he saw the dot com bubble before anyone else, and against all his advisors' advice, he put all his money in US Treasuries. Within the next year, Greenspan said the words "irrational exuberance", the bubble burst, and Greenspan lowered interest rates to zero. Bond prices move opposite of interest rates, so Cuban turned himself into a billionaire with that move.
A couple years ago, Cuban refinanced a couple hundred mil in USD debt in Indian banks in the rupee.
The Fed then backed off of QE and the dollar went up vs the rupee by over 100%, and Cuban paid the debt off for basically half what he originally owed.
