#5I have lost that much and far more over 30+ years... and some years I have earned 6 figures, more than a few times. In 2011 I made over $65k betting baseball over a period of 6 weeks and I used it for a big down payment on my house. It is not all bad...
When I was 20 years old in college I would bet $3000 per football game x 10 over a weekend and come back to my apt with a brown bag full of cash. There were bad years later of course... but I would never have had such a great time lolComment -

#6You can be the best or worst capper, card player, or gambler in the world but if you can't manage your money you are toast. When I played poker one of the best players I've ever seen...guy went to Princeton...would win several thousands at poker in one sitting but couldn't make it out of the casino past the baccarat tables. He got too far in the hole. You just have to try to make your risk of ruin as close to zero as you can get itComment -

got you my friend. I get it, and you're correct.
when booking I financed a girl friend and her kids and remodeled her house. I bought an antique car which I wanted my entire life. I would go to the track and lose 1000 or more constantly. Didn't care because I knew at the end of the week we would be up much more than that at the sports book. Books can't lose in the long run, it is like stealing money.Comment -

If he is actually up 900 for lifetime, that is an accomplishment that most cannot claim. But your point is taken, it is a drop in the bucket in terms of trying to make a living.Comment -

In all seriousness, I have only been sports betting regularly since I joined SBR. First year I was up $2500, and then.....
I make a lot of money, but I only bet 20-200 a game. Small time, just for fun.Comment -

I think it is much higher than 95% JJ. Like you write, if they play long enough and bet high enough they will reach that amount easily. When I had to quit booking I still needed to bet. Needed the action, I knew I could never quit. So I play small now. No more $1000 plays and throwing the remote at the TV. Now if I lose 2 or 3 thousand at the end of the season I don't really care that much. I had fun, and once in a great while I end up making a couple bucks but that is rare.
I do mostly everything wrong now. I play a ton of games which is stupid, I even play parlays which is really stupid. But, when you are playing with small stakes and you don't care it is fun. I no longer have that anxious feeling because I don't know how I am going to come up with 4 or 5 thousand. When I was just out of college I was always struggling to find the money to pay the book during foot season. What an horrendous deal that is. Then one of the bigger bookies in the area asked me to run his book. What a difference, I had action and I couldn't lose. I was in 7th heaven. I did that for over two decades and never had a losing year, very seldom a losing season.

#22That's about what it takes to actually learn how to gamble respectably.
In a nod to LT Profits, I tailed his college bball run 2 (maybe last year???) years ago where he was hitting at a 65% clip for 3 months and killed it to honestly say that I'm within striking distance of even water.Comment -

he is right grease l, no juice and if you can even off the action you can't lose. It is a no lose situation, even dumb bookies make money, big money. in my area it is difficult to find bookies. my boss died and his family wanted to continue but the action was dying out because of off shore betting. the one way a bookie can lose is if he doesn't have much action. If you are taking action from only a couple people you can lose. but if you have 30 or 40 players it is almost impossible to lose, especially if you lay off the big action.Comment -

You should be able to spend some time here and figure out pretty quickly that this is not a good way to make money.
I do get tempted to bet big when I think I have an edge, but I bet on credit with a bookie and keep my pay-up/pay-out level low. He has wanted me to up it a few times but I tell him no.Comment -

Smart grease l, don't ever think he is doing you a favor by giving you a higher limit. Obviously, he knows you are a good player because you pay and you make decent money. That is the type of player they love. Stay smart, what you are doing is the proper way to play, Don't get tempted because that will be bad news. But, reading your above reply you are pretty sharp and have this figured out. Good job my friend.Comment -

Yeah it's funny. He said he wanted to up my limit because he didn't want to meet as often, but this just happened to be when we were meeting for the second time in a month and he was paying me both times.Comment -
