Just received my first Credit Card!
    Oh boy

I'm just wondering if it is a bad idea to transfer credit over to my neteller account so that I can play poker? I hear it is bad to take out cash advancements? WTF. So will I be charged a lot if I do transfer credit over to my neteller account?

It depends on the card but many will call a Neteller deposit a "cash advance" which often attracts a significantly higher interest rate and no interest free period.

You probably won't be able to find out for sure until you do one.

Gambling on credit is a road to ruin though. Especially when there is interest on it as well as with a card.

Another trap to look for before you do this is find out if your bank applies your re-payments to cash advances first or last.

If they do it last then you will need to clear your card balance totally back to zero before those higher cash advnace interest rates can be stopped.

The interest rates on cash advances are huge; on top of that, never gamble on credit.

few years ago , one big name book offshore charged your CC for Merchandise. Not sure what kind of 'deal' they had with the Merchant

                                          did not last long

else Donald Trump would have went to jail multiple times... Do what he does, run up a massive bill than duck behind bankruptcy protection.

Word of advice. Never charge anything on credit that you don't expect to pay off in the first month to avoid interest. If you are not self disciplined cut that card up. I've dated many woman but my wife was the first that didn't have debt. If your girl has a balance.. find a new girl.

Forget gambling and poker. You need to look ahead down the road when in a few years you'd want to buy your first house or get a personal loan to start a business...etc. For that you'd need to have a great credit history.

Maxing out on a cash advances to gamble is a death trap and will undoubtedly destroy your credit...especially if you only have one CC.

What you need to do with this card is start making a few small purchases each month (like buying groceries or putting gas in your car).
When the bill is due, depending on your situation, you can either pay off the full amount owed or make payments.

From an optimal credit score perspective, paying interest on a balance doesn't help your score. Using your credit card a few times a month is enough to build a history of responsible credit use and payment. Make monthly payments for a minimum of 6 months to establish a credit record and then pay off the full balance as soon as possible.

Do not let your cards sit idle for too long or you run the risk of having your card and account closed by the lender due to inactivity which in some cases causes potential lenders to view your credit worthiness as less than desirable.
