Smart move. Gotta get that .611 OPS in the lineup, Bochy.

That's ridiculous. Trevor Brown has looked solid this season have him do it Buster had the day off behind the plate he can catch, hell there's plenty of guys in that SF bench that can hit. There's guys that can't make that starting line up who'd be starting on most other sides.

I've come to the conclusion that the chief stipulation for becoming a baseball manager is severe mental retardation.

Bumgarner is suprisingly off the radar screen with the elites.. Maybe its because i'm on the east coast but i've been tailing him on every play this season ^_^

Perhaps its more of a mental edge for Bumgarner. Some pitchers feel better when they hit.

                  We'll see for tonight's action

Only concern is him getting tired out running the bases, but so far hasn't been an issue this season

Bumgarner isn't hopeless at the plate and it gives the Giants an extra player on the bench; not a terrible decision.

Then you lost big a few times this month. As he hasnt had much run support losing 1-0 at pitt and 3-2 to philly. Both his losses. Although he pitched quality in both

Ya man disappointing for sure.. But overall still well above green. His recent losses are only a small window of the overall sample size. Extrapolate that out into the big picture - get rich.

As a member of the "ban the DH" side, I like it. But it may backfire. It is going to get a lot of attention and if he goes 0 for 4 it is not going to look good. Most people only see the offense side of this.

Bumgarner is like a double away from having an OPS equivalent to Jason Heyward!

maybe Joe Maddon can try Heyward pitching every 5th day too, to help recoup some value on the 22+ Mil he makes a year

I believe the rule is that if you start the game w/o a DH, you can't use one at all for that game (i.e., for relievers). Seems like an unnecessary self-inflicted disadvantage.

Great to see a pitcher able to bat for himself. It helps when you could do it on your days off also. Could he keep up his numbers tho?

What if the pitcher needs live at bats to keep HIS timing???

If the A's were smart, they'd bean Bummy first pitch. Who cares if their starter Overton gets ejected. I'd take that trade anyday, assuming Bumgarner gets taken out in caution.

maybe Joe Maddon can try Heyward pitching every 5th day too, to help recoup some value on the 22+ Mil he makes a year
