He's a great player, but to hang around the way he does with these injuries kills the Mets. You can't go out and make a move for an everyday third baseman because Wright "possibly" is going to play 70 games.
David Wright needs to hang it up already.

#7Mets third baseman David Wright is at least three to five weeks away from beginning baseball activities, GM Sandy Alderson told Anthony DiComo of MLB.com and other reporters Friday. A setback would likely end the 34-year-old Wright’s chances of playing this season, observes DiComo, which is the latest discouraging update regarding the longtime franchise cornerstone. Wright, who’s dealing with neck, shoulder and back issues, has appeared in just 75 games dating back to 2015 and hasn’t played since May of last year.Comment -

#9The only value he brings nowadays is his squeaky clean image.
And a potential feel good comeback player story. His days of contributing on the field are long gone.
Too bad when he was good, his team was not.Comment -

#10Mets get back at least 75% of his salary this year, and probably next year since it's likely he'll miss time there too. He's trying to hang on for a ring. I expect he'll give it one more shot next year and will retire afterwardsComment -

#23PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBSNewYork) — For the first time in nearly 15 months, David Wright will play in a baseball game Tuesday night.
The 34-year-old third baseman will begin his rehab assignment by serving as the designated hitter for Class A St. Lucie, the Mets announced Tuesday.Comment -

#24Last week Mets third baseman David Wright terminated his rehab assignment a couple of days after it began when he experienced renewed soreness in his right shoulder. He went back to New York to be examined. The results are in and they are bad: Wright will undergo surgery in New York on Tuesday to repair his right rotator cuff.
Wright has been limited to just 75 games over the past three seasons. He’s under contract through 2020, and is owed a total of $47 million over the final three years of his deal. It’s looking increasingly likely, however, that he will not play much if any of that time. The human body can only take so much.

#27NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Yoenis Cespedes is scheduled for his second heel surgery in a few weeks, but the oft-injured New York Mets slugger says he can’t yet predict how much he’ll be able to play next season.
Cespedes had surgery Aug. 2 performed by Dr. Robert Anderson in Wisconsin to remove bone calcification in his right heel, the first of two operations expected to sideline the outfielder for eight to 10 months. The procedure on his left heel is set for Oct. 23, five days after his 33rd birthday.
Because Cespedes’ status is uncertain, Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon says the team must plan in the offseason as though the two-time All-Star will be unavailable.
Cespedes has played in only 119 games over the past two seasons after signing a $110 million, four-year contract. He batted .262 with nine homers and 29 RBIs in 38 games this season.Comment
