I'm going to piggyback off of JJ when he asks if you have 2500 or less in savings.

CREDIT SCORES ARE VERY IMPORTANT and at my advanced age, I learned how to dispute collections and how to build my credit score. It's actually quite easy. I started with secured cards to rebuild my credit and it's working like a charm.

ANYONE CARE TO LIST THEIR SCORE?

You're judged in so many ways by credit. I was like you, but as a 44 year old guy with a 2 1/2 year old kid, I now know that credit scores are a big part of life. Start off with a secured credit card. 2nd, if you have a collection: Check the date the last time that it was reported. If it wasn't reported recently, dispute it with Transunion or Equifax and make an excuse (It was taken care of), and they will wipe it out. I had medical ones. Thousands were wiped out. Either that or wait 7 years, which doesn't sound appealing. DON'T MAKE INQUIRIES. Don't try to get a credit card that you'll get rejected for or not sure. That will decrease your score.

This is true. Many people, business and non business related look down on people with bad credit.
