David Ortiz is too good to retire. He should play 5 more years.
Regardless that he doesn't play 1st base anymore, he can still hit and I believe he has 5 years more in the tank. In 5 years, he can create more records and take the club to the postseason. There is nobody like Big Papi.

No they leave these guys alone when they announce retirement and let them do all the PED's that they want. He would have to go off them to play another year and he would probably hit under .200.

He's on pace to hit 80 doubles this year which will shatter the record of 67. Might also have 50 Homers and 170 RBIs.

How about 1 year at a time. Never understood the need to announce retirement year in advance. Quite when you're done. Some guys feel the need for a farewell tour I guess. I bet he'll be back next year. They'll give him 20 mil for a year.

He should retire when he doesn't have the desire to play anymore. And by play, I mostly mean put in the work it requires to be able to play at the highest level.

It doesn't matter because that meldonium variant in his Designated Hitter body will continue to pump the ball out of the ball park.
Strict orders from his personal trainer: Rule 1: Don't forget to juice, Rule 2: Don't forget rule 1.

I don't understand why the leagues cannot make PEDs legal. It will level the playing field better than the current situation we have at hand. The science of testing is way behind the latest masking agents that top players have.
We can enjoy better performances (more home runs, monster dunks, etc.) if everyone is on PEDs. It is entertainment after all. Banning Sharapova for two years just robbed tennis of half its audience.

In 2 years, he will have better masking agents or a new drug. It will always be a game of catch-up.

Many athletes still use something illegal...always one step ahead of the testing

We are not talking about bodybuilder steroids here from a couple of decades ago. In this day and age, not all PEDs are harmful for you. You think all these mega-millionaire athletes don't want to live a long life with all the money they have earned? All drugs not approved by the FDA are not harmful for you. FDA approvals are a joke. For example, Sharapova was taking meldonium for more than a decade. Meldonium has no harmful long-term effects. They only banned it starting 01-Jan-2016 after it did not get FDA approval. For meldonium, FDA is probably in cahoots with a big pharma company that has a different drug for a similar purpose.

It’s cheating and bad for the body, period.
If you have kids sit them down and tell them…take drugs to get better at sports.
Start early about 12 would be good……my boys gonna be in the big leagues, my boys gonna turn some heads!

You missed the memo. It is already happening everywhere. Kids in full-time sports academies are being put on a healthy "diet."

Better to retire and go out on top. Like Elway, and glad to see Manning do the same. Hate to see guys hang on and go out as bums.

if he signs next years sheet for $20 mil then says he's retiring again they won't go after him
