Football coach Art Briles has been fired by Baylor, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy. Baylor has been under scrutiny for months about how it has handled sexual assault allegations involving several of its football players.

I don't necessarily blame you bc Baylor did a good job of covering everything up.

I do. But it will pass. He'll sit out a season or maybe two but will be back. He recruited some shady players and didn't punish others but he isn't the first to do that. Not defending his actions, just saying it won't cost him a career.Originally posted by BigDofBAComment -

Basically in a nut shell, he not only recruited and took on players that were dismissed from other programs for violent crimes, including sexual assault, he also covered up "several" cases of sexual and physical assault by his own players, kept them on the team, let them play, and didn't punish them.
It wasn't just 1 or two cases, it was several.
When Baylor took the the player that got kicked off Boise's team, Briles knew about his problems but straight up lied through his teeth and acted like he was unaware.
The University president knew about all of this. The athletic director knew. Briles knew. They covered it up to protect the football team.
There is also a rumor that the Waco police department kept the accusations hush hush to protect the football team but I'm not sure that's been substantiated. It would explain how none of this has blown up until now though.Comment -

there's a lot of guilty parties here, but ultimately briles should have at least done something to punish his players instead of lie about stuff he knew of.

He looked the other way on multiple rapes... That we know of. That's just as bad in a lot of people's eyes. With the NCAA microscope on the program and probably the AD I'd be willing to bet there will be other things coming out. Anyone else following the Butch Jones rape stuff in Knoxville as well? Covering for players goes on at many top tier schools so either this is the tip of an iceberg in Waco or this is a targeted move by some power brokers in the Big 12.Comment -
