It's the future of how things are going to be done, this streaming. I mean before all this, musicians complained that they didn't make shit per unit on a CD sale. I've played music my whole life and come up in the hardcore scene which is full of nothing but these so called "little guys" and what it comes down to is if you really want to make it you penetrating grind your ass off and you play 300 shows a year and sell merch and get creative and make the system work for you. Do as much as you can on your own and you get all the profits. Musicians sign their life over to record companies and then wonder why they're getting fukked

Prince was all about the artist rights, which is not always about money but in this case it might have been to make a statement to other artist. It is laughable to think that artist are getting paid off youtube or spotify. Research tiered pay structures and low royalty payments. It's a joke. Most artist will make a few hundred dollars on 1 million streams, while the label makes thousands. Prince was never into the digital age. He didn't like the way the music sounded digitally as so do many audiophiles. Maybe he just didn't want his music distributed in this medium, I don't know. He was always paranoid of people sampling, stealing, using his likeness, voice etc. Why should I criticize an artists choice of delivery?

Correct. Most musicians make their real money off touring and doing shows. Very little from record sales. And putting your stuff on youtube helps get your exposure, and that in turn helps get people to buy tickets to your shows.
