#107In her own words she said that she had signs of diabetes and signs of magnesium deficiency...so how's that not being sick?Originally posted by shari91I didn't call her dishonest until she opened an email and failed to click a link that would've told her that the dope she was taking for 10 years had now been found out by WADA. When she continued to take it whether out of arrogance or not, she then became a dishonest drug cheat.
If you honestly believe she was "sick", prescription or not and playing elite tennis and winning Grand Slams then you are seriously a goose. Be real now. Even Maria never claimed she was sick ffs.
People with mag deficiency could get heart palpation to the point where they can't get up. Don't for second think, that it's just something similar to a headache that you get after a long night of drinking.
and I never said that I believed her, I do whoever willing to give her the benefit of a doubt, simply based on what I've read about the drug and her condition.Comment -

#109Lance Armstrong and a few hundred others in their "own words" gave us every denial and excuse they could think of. That's not including all of the Euro and Asian athletes that most of us on here would never even have heard of. I can't apologise for not buying her story especially when the manufacturer of the drug came out and said, yeah no it's not made for long term use and there is no proof of anything she's saying.Originally posted by Russian RocketIn her own words she said that she had signs of diabetes and signs of magnesium deficiency...so how's that not being sick?

I'm just happy we can have a discussion in this thread with differing opinions and people aren't resorting to name calling and other crap. I love learning stuff and hearing other opinions so it's lovely that this chat has been able to continue without any drama

#110Shari you and I just have different ways of looking at things when they're presented to us.
While, you're quickly jumped the gun and started labeling Maria a cheater, I looked at the scientific data and I didn't base my opinion on assumptions.
This drug only has been added to the banned list this year, simply based on the assumption that it could potential give an edge to an athlete.
There are no studies done to support whether in fact it gives and edge to someone or not.
Another great example would be, when Wizzle tells everyone that he's making a decent coin capping hoops - it's easy to take his word for it and start thinking that he's really making money in gambling.
But when you pull all of his threads and records and put everything together, you quickly realize that he's a life-long clueless loser and a liar, who's simply whoring for attention here.Comment -

#134Because meldonium medically has been shown to improve the exercise capacity of injured tissues (for example, injured tissues in the heart in heart attacks), it has been used without any approval for increasing exercise capacity of noninjured tissues (like muscles and a healthy heart).
The simplistic answer is that it seems to reduce oxidative stress on tissues.
WADA found evidence it is used to enhance performance by virtue of carrying more oxygen to muscle tissue.
A memo was sent out to athletes by Russia’s anti-doping agency last September informing them of the decision to ban its use.
Pova knew it enhanced her performance and knew it was illegal back in January -10000.Comment -

b. For a drug to be added to the list, it doesn't actually have to increase the performance...as long as it has the potential to enhance sports performance, the agency can freely included it to the outlawed list.
Caffeine, for example, was considered dope as recently as the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, then removed from the list in 2004Comment -

b. I'm going to go with the study that says it “demonstrates an increase in endurance performance of athletes, improved rehabilitation after exercise, protection against stress, and enhanced activations of central nervous system (CNS) functions” over your hope that it might not.
She had an unfair advantage for a decade, and unless you can prove that all the other tennis players were using the same drug or something better there's no defense for this cheat.Comment -

It is likely that she used the drug to aid her performance, but should not be retroactively punished for it.
Her punishment should be for the failed drug test, not for the use across "10 years."Comment
