An analysis of a ridiculous number of my own bets shows that when I think there is value in the underdog moneyline, putting one unit on the upset win or splitting the unit between the upset money line and the underdog point spread tend to yield the some overall profit result.
Everyone is different.

There is no math to be done. If there is, what formula should I use?
Is +5 or +190 the better bet in your opinion?
You aren't saying shit.

I agree that many of those are bad numbers, especially considering prices, and I've done the math. When doing the comparison, I only used games where the price of the upset triggered a bet, one with an acceptable edge, then I blindly split the bets and bought the spread at whatever price. It still came out about even.
For the most part, if the upset moneyline triggers the bet, I simply bet the upset and don't bother splitting. But different strategies based on the flow of money have put me onto both the upset and points for a unit each. Even though I have profited for the most part there, it did cost a bit in commission.
In conclusion, to a certain extent, JJ has a fukkin clue.

There is plenty of math, albeit simple, to be done. Do you know how much you pay in commission?
Do you know what the fair price is for +4.5? There are SBR tools and calculators that can get you in the ballpark but they allow you to input your own numbers...for good reason.
