#6i wouldnt be so fast to go that route. provo shot insanely and uncharacteristically well from behind the arc (other than lindsey nobody could miss and bullock made like half his 3s he has made all season in that game!) the 1st meeting and they scored 154, id expect this game to stay in the 140s so under or nothing makes way more sense imo..Comment -

#11Butler +1.5 my only CBB play tonight so far. Big disparity in three-pointers made in favor of Butler tonight could be key as they get revenge for earlier home loss. Providence in not a good shooting team, ranked 213th in the country in effective field goal percentage, and they have been shooting even worse in recent games. Also, the two home losses this year have come in the last two home games vs. Seton Hall and Marquette, Butler is better than both those teams.Comment -

#13Would lean Butler here though. Butler was up 36-23 with 1min left in the 1st half when they played 12/31 before falling apart.Comment -

you right it a no play for me but gun to head i agree with LT, provo current form (havnt been sharp in conf at home) and how uncharacteristically well they shot the 1st meeting makes me think butler has pretty good shot to get a little revenge..Comment -

#16Butler couldn't contain Dunn last time, he'll go off again. Bentil will have his way against undersized Butler down low.
Roosevelt Jones + Dunham + Chrabascz are combined 35/111 (31.5%) in the last 3 meetings vs Provo.Comment -

#17Both Dunn & Bentil were in foul trouble in 1H and I expect the refs to continue favoring home court tonight so that early foul trouble likely won't happen againComment -

#23Providence or no play. Why? A few reasons.
They were undefeated until a slow start caught them
vs Marquette. They rallied back but fell by 1 point in
an ending that could have gone either way, fouls and all.
In the loss to Seton Hall, sloppy play hurt them and there is
some underestimation of Seton Hall this year, who are dangerous
when hot. Friars were down 10 at the half, won the 2nd by 1.
The game took place exactly at the same time as the Patriots.
Players hoped they would get fan support at the Dunk but it wasn't
so much because everyone was watching the Pats. Poo Poo that
all you want but players said they hoped for support. Of course tonight
there will be a lot of that.
The main issue with Friars right now is buffing up the bench play and
starting strong - the team has a demonstrated ability to rally back but
shouldn't be putting themselves in a position where they need to.
We can be sure coach Cooley is on this. On to the Butler game tonight
I can understand the line (due to recent forms) and stats (which overinflate
Butler's scoring against lesser teams) but at Butler just 3 weeks ago the
Friars overcame an 11 pt deficit at the half to embarass Butler in front of
their fans by 19 in the 2h with times they were up well into the 20's in
10-15 minutes of bball. So anyone who takes Butler needs to understand
that Providence when they are playing well is more talented.
In the loss to Seton Hall, Kris Dunn fouled out and so did bench guard
Edwards. Friars can't afford to see Dunn foul out and expect to beat
top ranking teams. It was a Dunn foul that made them lose to Marquette also.
If Cooley impresses on Dunn to be less eager to make overzealous plays on defense
resulting in fouls they should win tonight.
Butler wants revenge but the Friars should be able to force them into sloppy
defense resulting in fouls and get to the line a lot. (Bentil).
It's not worth taking Butler at this line, Providence has shown when they
play their game smart they are the better team. They were able to impose
their will on Butler quickly. They held Butler to 3/17 from 3.
So basically unless you think Butler will drain 3's in Providence and force
Kris Dunn into foul trouble again when he is instructed to avoid that
then it's PC or no play or at the very least wait to 2h if you think the
Friars will start slow again.Comment -

Head to head on Kenpom Butler matches up very good vs Providence with a huge edge in effective FG%.
I like Dunn a lot but think Providence is over rated because of him so you get + money with the better team.Comment -

#26Per my writeup on the front page I am taking Providence with some confidence. Butler has no size to create a mismatch with Providence, and the Friars younger lineup will be stoked to play at home (read: defense). I also see this as a let down game after Butler's last one in which they had all kinds of ceremonies for their center who died of cancer last week.
As always with a team like Butler they can hit a bunch of 3's and be in any game; however, if they come out cold they will shoot themselves into a big deficit on the road.Comment -

#29Butler struggles with real athletic teams like Provo. Personally I just think Provo is the better team but won't touch because hard to sweep a team, especially when they just played each other a few weeks ago.Comment -

#32Don't know if guys here watch teams actually play rather than final scores but to me Prov. has looked disturbingly sloppy against lesser opponents and gotten outhustled in 2 straight home games as a ranked team. Yet almost 60% public on provo knowing they were ranked #4 or 5 only a week ago and still buying the hype. I can tell you to lose to seton hall and Marquette on home floor shows me this team is not very focused mentally and it will get even tougher vs a Butler squad that plays the full 40 min. with high intensity. Add in revenge and Butler the play here.Comment -
