Matt Mitrione suffered a gruesome-looking eye injury at Sunday night’s Ultimate Fighting Championship event inside TD Garden in Boston.
A clean punch to the face from opponent Travis Browne left Mitrione with a golf ball-sized swelling just over his right eye, blocking his vision.
The injury even left the fight’s announcers disgusted.
“Boy, it is so swollen now,” one announcer said. “It is so nasty right now.”

Blantant eye pokes like what happen to meat head last night should be a point deduction on the first offense, 2nd time should be a DQ.. Fighters need to learn how to punch with a closed fist.. If they are fending off an aggressive attack with open hands and get the eye poke that's one thing but to strike and eye poke is just not cool... Why should the other fighter take the bloody eye when he's fighting with a closed fist and fair?

UFC really needs to step up that rule... Eye pokes are accidental in nature sure, but it's really not if the fighter is striking with an open hand and it happens more then 1 time..

Jon Jones is guilty of that constantly...
