With good reason. Why should any state "honor" a sexual degenerate, a plagiarist, and a communist operative? It will be fun to hear those FBI wiretaps when they're unsealed in 2025. Before you call me a racist like you've been trained to do, feel free to dispute the 3 things I called him.
1. Sexual Degenerate - Marty King loved to bang prostitutes in motels. Even his inner circle of friends admit this. The fact that he used political donations for it and the fact that he was a married reverend can be up to the individual to decide if that makes him a sleaze.
2. Plagiarist - Marty King plagiarized a large part of his doctoral thesis at Boston University. This is well known. In fact, there are some institutions that use this as an example of what plagiarism is. Boston University even held a meeting (I believe in 1991) to decide if they should take away his doctorate (that's how blatant it was), but they decided (or was pressured) not to, citing "what good would it do".
3. Communist Operative - While the associations with the likes of Bayard Rustin and Jack O'Dell, or even the attendance of classes at the Highlander Folk School can be debated as to its significance, there's no denying the money and guidance he took from Stanley Levison.
If you want a holiday for a black man, why not Frederick Douglas?, or George Washington Carver?, certainly both worthy of that honor. Instead, you have a fraud.
