#38Absurd. If the game is a low scoring defensive battle and there's heavy wind, it's a no brainer.Originally posted by jtolerI dont see any reason for a team to defer getting the ball in a sudden death situation, there is no good reason for it ever if youre actually trying to win.Comment -

#39I guess Mike Zimmer wasn't trying to beat the Rams when he did it earlier this season...Originally posted by jtolerNo coach gives up the ball in that situation if he's actually trying to win unless he's plain stupid. Just because youve gotten 3 and outs mean nothing, obviously the opponent has gotten 3 and outs against you also, youre in OT for a reason. Besides anything can happen, as you said blown coverages, also penalties, and just plain old they simply score a td against you. If Belichick was actually trying to win this game then he was trying to be too cute for his own good, but I wouldnt doubt it if he wasnt trying to win either.

#41Originally posted by El NinoAnd, Belichek just came out and said he wanted to defer. The kid said we want to kick, which is a decision. That is not deferring. So, by making the decision, the Pats lose the ability to choose which way they wanted to defend. That was what the argument was about.
I must have missed 'the kid' saying they wanted to kick. Shit I watched it three times on Redzone too.

#43I was referring to this game. Still even in those situations, past performances in a game is not a reflection on what is going to occur, even in inclement weather Id probably receive, I just believe offense trumps defense any day simply because the defense has to react to whatever the offense is doing.Originally posted by POOLSIDEAbsurd. #47Couldn't tell if it was Slater or Butler. There was no indecision when he said we want to kick though. The protest came when the refs asked the Jets player which way they wanted to go on offense. He didn't think the Jets should get to choose.Originally posted by JMonI must have missed 'the kid' saying they wanted to kick. Shit I watched it three times on Redzone too.

I agree ya gotta take the ball in OT if you win that coin toss..
It's not like deferring the possession you will then get the ball to start the third quarter or anything like that.. In OT I think you want to have the ball and try to score offensively every time.. Especially if your offense has been putting up points all game long and when the defenses are starting to wear down that late in the game......Comment -

#68Yes, but Bridgewater was knocked out of the game before OT. Rams then got the ball at 20, got a 5-yard penalty, went 3-and-out. Vikes returned punt to 50, Petersen broke a 15-yard run and they kicked long FG

You have to give Brady the ball.
If you have Tom Brady and that high powered offense you take the ball in OT and try to score first.. I don't care about weather conditions. Even if you have the number one defense in the league and are at home they can face the opposing teams offense on the next drive if you don't score a TD...
If anything you give your own defense time to rest if anything else by taking the first possession offensively in OT...Comment
