#38In an effort to share my lack of understanding as to how guns kill people without someone pulling the trigger being ultimately responsible, below is a copy of my post in the thread about today's shooting which will save me from typing my thoughts again.
I live in rural north Alabama. Shit like this just doesn't happen in my area. I tend to think that it has a lot to do with a shooters chances of survival. One gunshot in a room with 20 people in it and you have 30 guns pointed back at you. You may kill one of us but the rest of us in the room will return fire. There will not be 20 casualties. I conceal carry a 9mm and a smaller backup (380 usually) at all times, even to church on Sunday mornings with at least 1 long gun in every vehicle that I own. Most of the men and some women around here are armed like me at all times and we don't have bullshit like this from anyone, be it Muslims, thugs, crazy ass white people or aliens. You start shit with my wife and she will shoot you. Guns are never the problem in this situation because if there had been a few of us so called rednecks in that room today, there would have been no manhunt because the bodies would have been laying there. If your group is known to be armed with guns and testicular fortitude, people like this will go find somewhere else to kill people. I apologize for the long rant but it amazes me how people continue to find fault with the guns instead of the crazy people operating the guns.Comment -

#45The purchase of fire arms on the deep web is fairly well documented.
If you are unfamiliar with the deep web, it is where most of the worlds child pornography, snuff films etc. are trafficked. There is a wide variety of other really fukked up things (hitmen, documenting medical experiments preformed on kidnapped homeless people, drugs etc.)
Honestly the illegal sale of drugs and guns are probably among the more benign things going on on the deep web.

#50ExactlyOriginally posted by The KrakenGuns are the problem, not the answer, but it's a problem that most Americans are willing to live with as long as they get to keep theirs.
Guns give this amazing false sense of security that we love, as if we're invincible. All along the same fat-asses that are so afraid to die that they carry a gun on their person, have one in every vehicle, and 10 around the house, are woofing down chicken fried steaks, fries and washing it down with a large coke, plus refills.
#1 killer of fat ass, gun owning americans is heart disease, but you don't see any of them going on a diet. #5 killer is Stroke, #7 is Diabetes.
#10 killer is suicide, homicides is well below that
I guess ultimately it's a self-correcting problem
People say they need it if somebody breaks into their house at night etc...
Don't know about you but as a deep sleeper if someone broke into my house at night and wanted to shoot me whilst I was asleep its not like id magically wake up and shoot back...
Also its not like a gunman is going to give you a chance to go your gunsafe, unlock it, grab your weapon and shoot back...
Too many people drunk with the false sense of power that firearms bring and thus are unable to think about a construct in a rational manner..Comment -

#51A conspiracy theory is not a valuation. Calling something a conspiracy theory often conotates disbelief or the accusation of it being incorrect but I don't mean it like that. Conspiracy mostly pertains to the secrecy.Originally posted by IsaiahCounter intelligence is hardly a conspiracy theory. And the authorities are aware of what goes on on the deep web, they are just unable to do anything about it.
Nobody created the deep web. It sounds like you don't really understand what it is. It is just unindexed web that cannot be reached without following a number of specific steps to ensure anonymity of both the user and site itself.Comment -

#53Getting rid of guns, at this point, is just not possible. Its time to look for a solution to this problem from a different angle. I would start with working on giving the perps in these crimes much less publicity. #54Surprised you Americans even care that much anymore, just another mass killing meh. You lot don't seem to be bothered doing anything about it the rest of the world are starting to realise it's just another week in America.
Only thing I find sad about it in the aftermath anymore is people saying heart disease kills more and Honduras is worse, fukk me pull your heads in. And if you can't figure out why there's still no helping you (which of course isn't happening anyway). GL shoot on.Comment -

Personally think this starts with 'greed is good' mentality.
Turned most people into egotistical prikks with little to no compassion for their fellow man.
And to think they are SUPPOSEDLY the greatest country on earth...

355 mass shootings this year against probably less than 5 in UK/Canada/Australia combined. In fact maybe none this year... as far as I can recall.
Make an argument why you think that's just fine!

#61So what... seriously the number isnt that important. I bet there was around 1 gun per citizen in Australia when the laws came in too.Originally posted by kidcudi92"There are roughly 300 million guns in the United States—nearly enough for each citizen to own one."
BTW, anyone who has a genuine need for a gun and is willing to undergo regular training can have a gun still. We still have more than 20 firearms per 100 people. Lots of restrictions on type and no semi auto weapons but you almost never hear complaints from farmers or hunters or target shooters about the laws.
But if i get mad or go mental as an ordinary citizen it is quite difficult to lay your hands on a gun legally or illegally without already showing a commitment to regular gun club attendance as a minimum. Even if I know someone who has a gun to steal, the law means almost every one will be locked in a gun box bolted to a floor..Comment -

#64No its not bullshit, there are too many guns in existence right now and this thread shows the overall attitude in America about guns. They like em ain't gonna get rid of em. I stand firmly by my point that these mass killings where innocent victims are involved (not gang related shootings) would be greatly reduced by not publicizing the shooter. I believe that the fame and attention these shooters get is one of the main motivations.Originally posted by OptionalBullshit!

In this day and age, where details are obtained almost as fast through twitter and FB, theres is no way to put the cat back in the bag
Plus, is Australia/UK not mentioning the names of shooters? Is that why they have almost zero mass shootings a year?
Again, I dont disagree with you but as you said, aint gonna happen, or more accurately, it cant happenComment -

#66After living outside of the United States, I've noticed that the States has a huge "live to work" mentality. Work, money, possessions and stuff seem to matter more to Americans (in general) than in other places that I've lived. All of that work and stress, and not enough play (spending quality time with family and friends), leads to unhappiness and physical/mental health issues. People choose medication (whether prescription, street, alcohol or weed) to de-stress.
So that's my opinion on why the US is going a bit crazy over the past decade. People may say that it's because of the guns, but guns are everywhere. I can go buy a gun here in Costa Rica, but nobody goes on these mass shootings down here. Why?
Guns have always been available in the States and quite easily. Something else is going on. Growing up, my dad had 2 handguns and a shotgun. He kept them loaded. This was pretty common, and no mass shootings. Why? What is the reason behind it. That's what we have to address. People are too quick to scream "it's the guns!", but it's not. Guns are just the delivery mechanism behind the violence. What's causing the violence itself?Comment -
