Surgery done Tuesday. In the ICU recovering. Ended up being a 5 bypass surgery. 3 arteries were 90% blockage, and another 80%. You don't know how humble, and fortunate I feel right now. A meaningless infection in my saliva gland led them to eventually finding the blockage. The rest of my life is now house money, and I am going to take full advantage of it.
powerful words here, props brother

Great news and a even greater way to look at it.

Been at home for 9 days now. Seeing primary care physician Friday. Follow up with surgeon in 8 days. Got my walking up to 25 minutes a day. Should be starting physical therapy after surgeon visit. Have lost 22 pounds since surgery. Hardest part is I can't do too many things for myself. Can't lift anything over 5 pounds. Kids have to put the milk in my cereal. I have problems with chest pain, but that's going to happen after they have cut your breast plate in half. Coughing is miserable. I was hoping I could get back to work by the start of December, but it is looking like the end of the year is more realistic.
Thanks for all of the well wishes from everyone here. The doctor warned me about depression after the surgery, and I kind of brushed it off. The truth is that if it wasn't for sports handicapping, poker, and couponing, I would probably go insane while the kids are at school, and the friends are working. This website has helped act as a buffer for getting down right bored, and I am so thankful that I accidentally came across it almost 9 years ago. God bless all of you guys, and I'm looking forward to using this time off to find ways of improving my game, and making money in the future.

Going to my first sporting event since the surgery today. Gotta see my Texans wrap up the division title in Nashville. Chest is hurting a little bit, but its going to be worth it. Have had this game circled on my calendar since this all began in October.

Feeling bad right now. Walked 3 miles total from parking lot and stadium. Totally gassed right now, but had to see how much stamina I have. An ironclad Texans win, along with a seemingly definite playoff berth, were all worth it though.

Keep smashing it KLC man...
Gotta find that right headspace and push through the pain if you wanna get back to being who you once were...
Hell my 95yo grandpa was in hospital for almost 4 weeks around 6 weeks ago and even he is pushing himself (even though he needs a walking frame these days), knowing that if he doesn't that's pretty much it for him...Mad inspiring to see...
Basically if a 95yo guy can do it then no reason anyone cant...

Want to be back to work on January 18th. Wife thinks I'm pushing too hard, and need to take more time. She's normally babied me over the last 25 years, and I've gone along with it. Not this time. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. Your grandpa definitely has my respect. We all can only wish that we can make it to 95, let alone keep pushing like he is.

I've had a few major surgeries, the recoveries are brutal and there is no easy way through them unfortunately.
Pace yourself, but challenge yourself a little bit each day. Eat well, get good rest, wakeup and do it again. Sooner than you realize, you'll be your healthiest you that you can probably remember.
My only caveat is if your chest pains increase with exertion, particularly cardio, go see your cardiologist, it may be time for another heart cath. I hope your chest pains are chest wall pains from your sternotomy, and not cardiac pains

I'm pretty sure its the sternotomy. I mainly feel the pain when I try to lay down in a bed. I still have to sleep upright in a recliner. The main problem with my cardio is endurance, and some discomfort in my left breast area. That area is normally numb, but will sting if I exercise over a long period of time. Doctor said that the numbness is normal, due to the surgery, so I haven't been too concerned.

Glad to hear thats the type of pain it is.
My two surgeries were thoracic, one involved breaking all the ribs on one side of my chest, so I know the pain you speak of well.
My numbness got better after a few years, but it never went away entirely which is fine with me, its just a small circle on my left chest.
You get any numbness in your fingers?

No, the fingers have been OK. Just been the breast area. I'm just glad that my chest doesn't click anymore every time I take a deep breath. I still have to stop myself from sneezing though. It hurts like a bitch.
