Today's joke of the day: Eli wants to be the highest paid in the NFL
Now that Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers have landed long-term contract extensions, the attention turns to another highly decorated member of the 2004 quarterback draft class.

Although the New York Giants hope to sign Eli Manning to a new deal by the start of the season, a "significant gap" remains in negotiations, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday's edition of NFL Total Access.

That gap is unlikely to close anytime soon, as Manning is pushing to become the game's highest-paid player, per Rapoport.

Manning isn't a top-five NFL quarterback, much less on par with 2014 Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers, who currently ranks as the league's highest-paid quarterback.

That said, agent Tom Condon believes Manning is "uniquely suited" to be the Giants' quarterback because he's proven unflappable in the media spotlight.

Condon and Manning also realize they are headed for a $25 million payday in 2016 if the Giants are forced to utilize the exclusive franchise tag.

Even if the G-Men dig in their heels and refuse to bypass Rodgers' annual figure of $22 million, they might be able to find common ground by front-loading the contract with guarantees in excess ofRivers' $65 million -- which is several million more than Rodgers pocketed in 2013.

I heard a guy on radio a couple months back saying Eli will prob get 20 mil a year. I thought it was funny but he was serious.

Eli hasn't been any good in what, 2-3 years?

He still has that Manning blood though. He'll probably age well, just needs an offensive line.

He's had two outstanding seasons in his career, one very good season, and seven seasons that ranged from horse shit to mediocre.

I'm a Giant fan my whole life, he needed a helmet catch Hail Mary prayer to beat New England, and a Plaxico fade in the corner of the endzone catch.

He had good numbers last year, highest completion % of his career, after rookie year has started every game that's crazy with how much he gets sacked.

That's just the way QB salaries go these days. If you've been a starter for awhile you're going to get a huge deal. Teams are frightened to lose a QB.

Sheli certainly should not be highest paid QB. Has a couple lucky rings that bounced his way I say lucky cause NYG was nothing special either year nor was he they just got hot at right time and both times they won were fortunate to have 1 play go there way each time. He's NEVER been best in gm let alone his own conference or arguably his div even (Romo). Wildly inconsistent , turns ball over way too much, main thing.

With that said though funniest joke of wk was RGme saying he is best QB in Nfl and I think he genuinely believes it

Eli and Peyton were having dinner with their Wives at Masa in Manhattan.

One of the most expensive restaurants in all of New York.

Eli grabbed the check, looked at at it and upon thinking about how much more money his brother made than him, passed the check to Peyton.

                                                            It was intercepted.
