How do golf bets work?

If I place an outright winner bet on Dustin Johnson to win the PGA Championship and he ends up winning I understand I get the +14000. But if he places in the top 6, does that mean I get 1/4 of the +14000 or would I have needed to select each way?

Betting each way requires 2 bets
1 to win and one to place

So if he wins you get both
If he finishes 2nd-6th you just get a quarter of your odds at your stake

So a 10£ ew bet staked of 20

If he wins you get 195
If he places you get 45

if you want to cash your ticket based on being in the top 3 or top 5 or top 10 or whatever it is.... then you will need to select that betting option.

You might be better off just playing the head to head match ups for round 1
