Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! will premiere on SyFy on Wednesday night, which could lead to success over the next two weeks for the Seattle Mariners, according toHashtag Important's Kenny Ducey.
Ducey found that the Mariners have an MLB-best 19-4 record in each of the two-week periods following the releases of Sharknado and Sharknado 2: The Second One. The Kansas City Royals hold the second best record over the same period at 16-7.
Ducey also notes that squads with an aquatic reference in their team name (the Mariners, Marlins, Rays and Pirates) have a 56-34 record, while the rest of the league is 283-305.
The movie release may spell bad news for the Toronto Blue Jays, currently third in the American League East, who hold a 7-17 record when the film hits television screens.
The Mariners could use all the help they can get, as they sit in last place in the American League West with a 42-51 record. The Mariners' success after previous Sharknado releases in 2013 and 2014 was short-lived, as the team failed to make the playoffs both years.
The Sharknado series has a more direct tie to the sports world, as several sports stars are cast in the latest film, which includes Mark Cuban playing the president of the United States. Several scenes of Sharknado 2 were filmed inside Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.
