He played for an inning, but he'll play the next 5 games as DH.

he is listed at 6 foot 235 pounds but he looks more like 250.
a kung fu panda type.
probably hits for a ton of power but is a station to station type guy on the bases.

with the power hitters the cubs have, sometimes a quick swing of the bat lets all the baserunners move station to station slowly and easily

thats true.
the red sox don't have a lot of team speed but it works for them b/c they hit the long ball.
Cubs still have some guys that run well though Russell, Castro, Fowler, Coghlan,Denorfia, Herrera.
since that dude is a catcher its clear to see why they had to get rid of Wellington Castillo.

He will pan out at some spot on the diamond. Not sure if he will pan out as a catcher (I think he won't, but he might), but his bat will play anywhere on the diamond. He has an elite bat and approach. Nothing is guaranteed, but as close to a guarantee as a young draftee can be. If he does stick at catcher, he will be one of the best hitting catchers immediately and for awhile. Otherwise, he's athletic enough to play corner OF and could probably play 1B if needed.

H
And there you'd be not quite correct. He's much more athletic than Panda. He was a second-team all-Ohio LB through HS. I'd say as catchers go, he's quicker and more athletic than the majority of them. You don't expect your catcher to be a blazer.
58 At bats & 114 doubles? 1 SO? 197 Runs? Schwarber must be the second coming of Babe Ruth.

Sorry not sold on guys that played at Indiana. When Mickey Morandini is the best thing out of your school in the last 50 years it will make a man skeptical.

Have they ever had one drafted that high? The particular college is totally irrelevant. Baseball players come from all different sorts of places. Most of the big names come from somewhere that nobody else has really come from before. That seems like a completely useless way to make a prediction. Maybe that's just me.

4 for 5 tonight in first start
Yes, he's a catcher, although some speculate he won't stick there (and will move to a corner OF).
Most were skeptical that he'd stick when drafted, but the word is he's had a good developmental year behind the plate and the Cubs insist that they plan to keep him there (although they will likely reduce his catching later in the summer and get some OF work with an eye on having him contribute in Sept, and in the playoffs if they make it). His bat is definitely ahead of his glove, so that's tricky and catcher is not a spot you can mess around with. If he needs to move, he will be adequate in the OF and his bat will play there.

Schwarber getting recalled with Miguel Montero going on the DL, who may be out for 6+ weeks.
Apparently though the Cubs will carry Schwarber as one of three catchers, so it's not clear how much he'll start at C.

Cubs have a great manager finally. Team not ready for bigtime this year though. Nice to see them much improved and always think of Ryne Sandberg and Andre Dawson on WGN as a kid when I think of them.

This kid is sick with a bat in his hands. He will be one of the best hitters in baseball. If he actually does it at C, he will be a hall of famer.

Schwarber is one of the best hitters in MLB. Fuckin' awesome. Love him! Knew he would come through there.
No way in hell they should send him down when Monetero is back. They can alternate catchers with him, Montero and Ross, but when Schwarber is not catching they should put him in the outfield.
Just imagine how many more wins they would have if he had been up and playing regularly earlier in the season.
