The smart one knows he can't leave a blood trail right now and I think he probably needs the second set of eyes now that he is feeling the walls closing in. I'm sure they have heard a radio/newspaper by now so they may have decided to split up. It is tricky trying to predict men like these actions. My guess is they will turn to bloodlust if scared enough.

I honestly don't think these men want anything other than freedom.

If they were smart they would find a train track and hop a train to the state of washington. And then just chill out in the woods for awhile and eventually after like 6 months start making their way down to mexico after they grow long hair and beards.

The detectives have resumed the trail. I would imagine if they were smart they would jump on the first plane/train/or automobile to the nearest hotspot and party one last time.
