      hmm, tough to say
u can argue that kobe has always been the best player on the lakers
duncun/parker/ginobili/ now leonard have all taken the torch at some point
i think what is often overlooked is the management/coaching aspect of players success
a couple years back, the spurs were getting beat in the first round and the team almost was almost broken up
look at the key pieces over the years that were added to this squad

i do give the spurs big 3 credit for taking pay cuts that allowed those moves to happen
u see what happend when kobe was in the same spot, he wanted no part of a pay cut

People forgetting how dominant Kobe was for so many years. Any # is arbitrary but 9 sounds about right.

Duncan has won 70% of his regular season games, had to win championships against shaq, Kobe, KD, lebron, wade, pierce, kg in their primes. 5-1 in finals over a 19 years career. Think of how we would look at magic and bird differently if they did play each other in their primes. Both have more rings. Mailman, Ewing, Stockton, Barkley, kemp, glove, drexler, Reggie, and other great players get rings in their primes if not for mj. So if Duncan can get 5 in all of these guys primes he moves into the top 5 for me, behind mj, Kareem, magic, and big O.

He's 39 years old and schooling everyone on a daily basis it's unbelievable. Kobe has done not much the last couple of years and will be hopeless when he's Duncans age.

That is why he might be the best player there ever was

He has a major case right now

Duncan playing well especially for his age, but leonard has this team on his back.

                        Jordan never won without Pippen
Kobe never won without Shaq and Pau
LBJ never won without wade and Bosh
Duncan never won without Manu, Parker, Pop

Fact is these superstars need solid teammates.

I was kidding in the sense that they had a great team in the sense that they had a lot of very good pieces (Kidd, Terry, Marion, Chandler, and a very solid bench).

But who was the second best player on that team? Probably Jason Terry. That's pretty crazy.

I think it is actually the longest of all time. Don't totally quote me on that, but I think that's correct.

Nah.. Kobe was an animal throughout his career and did it all essentially by himself for years.. I still remember that season where he averaged 35 a game. Sure they didn't win a title, but who can really do that?!?

Winning two rings with the likes of Gasol, Odom and Vujacic is also pretty remarkable.

Duncan's a great player, but he's had one of the best coaches in one of the most cohesive teams in the NBA of all time. This is what makes him less of a player than Kobe who has individually done way better with way less. The Spurs have never been a team of individuals, to attribute their success to individuals is not correct.

As Goat said, Timmy played w/ a great coach (if not the greatest), a great front office, legendary scouts getting 2nd round picks like Tony and Manu. But I don't blame Timmy for that. With that said I have Timmy as #5 or #6 depending on my mood.
