His velocity losing 5 MPH is the main reason.
When you would follow up a 100 mph FB with a low 90s change up, he was lethal. Hitters would have to compensate by starting their swing early to catch up to the fastball so they would whiff terribly on the change up.

Now the FB is around 94-95 and change up is high 80s. Hitters don't have to compensate anymore so they can be more patient and sit back.
