Oilers had a 5 on 3 power play in the 3rd but decide to run the clock and not try to score

they put their worst players (which is saying a lot, because it's Edmonton) on the power play and told them to burn clock

You should always spread your total plays. Put some on over 1.5 1st period instead of all on over 5 for game.
