Who said you have to risk 3u to win 1u on a -300...you should be using your standard risk amount, whtever that is, risking 1u to win .33u, but pick your spots or if u want action, play the ml and the +1.5 for a +350 to +400 payout if the heavy chalk wins by 1

Ex:

Team A +1.5 500/500
Team B -250 ML 714/286

Risking 214 to win 786 (+367 odds)
