Is Giancarlo Stanton the latest big contract flop?
Guy can't hit his way out of a wet paper bag now. Maybe it's that football helmet he's wearing now

I think They need someone better than Ichiro & that grunge rocker guy hitting behind him. Teams aren't pitching to him... Hopefully he doesn't have the yips after getting beaned in the face

Invest your money in pitching not hitting because that's what eventually wins everything

Young prime hitting talent combined with buying established pitching is the formula. I tend to agree investing that kind of contract into an OF is usually not too wise.

He will be getting plenty of fastballs batting behind Gordon and Yelich and Morse is no slouch in the 4 hole.
He'll be fine.

you can even make a case that two solid players maybe one pitcher that are not paid a ton are better than having Trout on your payroll
Trout is great but like we see can he carry a team to World Series like say a NFL QB can??? NO
Biggest mistake owners make is paying bug money to hitters..let them go plenty of solid latin players in minors that are much cheaper and will be very effective

Marlins penetrating suck.
They had the tieing run at 2nd base with two outs in the 9th and Jeff Baker watches threw strikes down the rooster and doesn't even swing.
Swing the penetrating bat!

One of best power hitters no doubt and still young. Hopefully mlb incorporates this a bit more instead of giving these guys bloated contracts on wrong side of 30 for what they did in another uni. Halos and Hamilton worst deal ever and probably not even debatable! Guarantee the Halos brass would LOVE having Stanton getting that $ ov a bust like Hamilton. But they are the fools who made offer

If he was playing for Jays they couldn't afford to pay their current 2nd and 3rd.

Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton’s mammoth contract isn’t as immovable as it appears, says FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal. Stanton has a full no-trade clause, but he’ll likely waive it if the up-for-sale Marlins begin tearing things down, which Rosenthal expects to happen. Further, Stanton would even “talk about his 2020 opt-out,” according to Rosenthal, who points out that the Marlins could facilitate a deal by eating some of the $295MM left on his accord or taking back an expensive contract from a potential trading partner. Rosenthal adds that Stanton’s annual $25MM luxury tax number won’t seem nearly as burdensome as it currently does when soon-to-be free agents such as Bryce Harper and Manny Machado sign more expensive deals.

Solid .896 OPS this year.
1.7 WAR, though, last year.
He's on pace for about a 3.5 WAR this year.
He definitely made the lowlight reel with the botched HR robbery vs Brewers today. Guy had the ball in the webbing of his glove.
It basically summed up the last 14 years for the Marlins.

The Marlins continue to tell clubs their main controllable players: Stanton, Ozuna, Yelich, Bour, Realmuto, Straily are not available.

The contract is divided into 2 parts. Part 1 is a 6 year, $107 MM deal. Then he can opt out. The remaining balance is 7 years, $208 MM.
There's no penetrating way he opts out.

Giancarlo Stanton's 26 HR this season are 3rd-most by a Marlin prior to All-Star Break. Mike Lowell hit 28 in 2003 & Stanton had 27 in 2015.
