Avery Johnson Going To Coach Alabama

Avery Johnson has reached a verbal agreement to take over as the head coach for Alabama's men's basketball team, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

It was reported Johnson was in the running after Alabama fired Anthony Grant, who had just one NCAA Tournament appearance in six seasons. After failing to convince Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall to join the program, Alabama opted for Johnson, who spent 16 seasons as an NBA player and seven more as a coach.

Will be interested to see if his coaching can translate to the college game.

They did have a nice little run when Wimp Sanderson was coaching them. Made the post season almost every year under him.

I thought they were going to get the Murray State coach. Everything I read said the guy considered it his dream job because he graduated from 'Bama. That seems like the kinda guy you would want, so very odd hire here. Would think his success will hinge on how he fills his staff. He is going to need an A+ recruiter.
