Wish Shaka would stay at VCU, I love the idea of a coach bringing a program from nothing into a powerhouse eventually, like what Greg Marshall did, the Duke's of the world were once unknown also. I liked what Brad Stevens was doing at Butler and then he bolted, very rare for a guy to stay at a smaller program, usually they are lured away by money, Wichy paid Marshall well even though he could have gotten more somewhere else, wish VCU would find enough money to keep Shaka there even though Im not exactly sure what his motivation is at this point, he did stay longer there any anybody expected.Comment -

Dirty's point still holds. Shaka runs a system predicated on defense. If he brings that defense to Texas, he will be playing a pressure D with blue chip prospects. That is a shaky situation and has been proven to be not as easy to implement as it seems.
Blue chips are generally having effort coached to them. Whereas the prototypical leftovers that find themselves on the VCU's of the world are all effort players. Them diving for loose balls, getting to the offensive glass, playing actual defense is part of the makeup of those low level prospects, as their talent doesn't meet their desire and the only way for these guys to eat is playing 100% every second they're out there - which is a strong characteristic of a Shaka team.
Effort is next to impossible to coach. The player either has it or he doesn't.
Thus, scoring buckets and playing olé defense is seen most often at the more elite levels of the game.
That said, Shaka was a perfect fit for UCLA. Shaka and Texas is kind of a meh - but he would be a fool to turn it down. In my opinion, he isn't an elite coach, but he is eventually going to be paid like one. Texas has the duckits.Comment -

GREAT move for Texas. Barnes was a fukkin joke, taking top highschool talent and coaching them into the ground. This year's team had so much potential and I place most of the blame on coach.
Shaka is a much much better coach. He will alter his gameplan and coaching style to his talent. He will get MUCH better recruits at Texas than at VCU. I disagree that effort cannot be coached, becuase I feel like Barnes coached it away, so Smart can influence it back up.Comment -

You guys are daft if you don't think recruits are going to want and come to play for Shaka with his havoc style. He may not be locking up 5 star kids every year, but I think he can recruit 3/4 star types and do more with them than a fukking team of All-Everythings would do under Barnes.
He won't change his style at Texas. They didn't hire him to morf into another snoring version of Barnes. The style is the selling point for the fans and the recruits. He'll find plenty who will want to play that.Comment -
