Quite a few lower seeds are the spread favorite over the higher seed. Interesting.

The lines could be off and the seeds could be off. I think they will balance out. I'll fill out a bracket just based on book favorites just to test it out in the first two rounds.

Texas, OSU, Mich St, Oregon, and Iowa are favorites, but lower seed in the first two rounds. Let's see how it goes.

seeds are based more on the teams resume, lines take matchup into account.

Doesn't matter what its based on. They both assign numbers according to what they know and see. Just want to see who knows their stuff in a results oriented business model. No one should have made Texas a favorite I don't care what the criteria was.

This small sample size will tell you nothing. The books put up tens and hundreds of lines a day that people bet millions of dollars into and make money hand over fist.

So far the books are off. When big favorites lose straight up books get slaughtered. The small guy bets dog ML's not spreads.

That is why I want to see if they are better than the committee. The committee doesn't delve into other sporting interest other than college basketball, they should be at least as goods as the books who are putting out lines for all sports. Concentrated vs broad. We always say the seeds don't mean anything, but in reality the line is just a number to get even money on both sides, which has no affect on the games either.

anyone who pays attention knows that historically the linesmakers are much better than the fools on the committee

and the betting market especially is better

A lot of the seedings are slotted though. For example middle of the road at large teams from major conferences are seeded 5 while mid-major tournament champions can be seeded 12. While the seeding is a difference of 7, there is really no comment made by the committee about the relative strengths of each team, this is the bookmakers job.

5-seed Utah favored over 4-seed Georgetown on Saturday. And Arizona will be favored over Wisconsin if those teams meet in Elite Eight.

Michigan State was the HIGHER seed, nothing fishy with that line.
