Tried to donate again today and am still waiting for that message to change. I don't even want to play, just want to help out. I'd be happy if SBR made playing the event Pro only but let anyone buy in to support. The more donations the better right?

basically if non-pros were allowed to buy charity donations then sbr would have to pay out for all the non-pro points. As it stands, non-pro points have no value, because they can't be cashed in for anything (except a one time offer of a shirt or cap, I think).
