Yes, you're supposed to tip taxi drivers. You are Canadian, so tipped employees naturally expect you to tip less, but tip SOMETHING.

This is why black people complain they can't get a cab ride in NYC. Most black people don't tip, and cab drivers in NYC generally get to choose who they pick up.

Taxi is tough business these days and less riders than years ago . Commercial insurance very high if it is a legit company so a tip is definitely a necessity.

I do normal tip, unless I know they took a long route, then I give only a small tip. Like last time I was in Vegas the guy took the long route and it cost $10 more dollars then what it should have been, so I just took that out of his tip

I remember I took a taxi from I believe it was JFK airport a while back, and the price of the trip was known before hand. $50 dollars for normal taxi, or $80 for a nicer ride. This is what Vegas should do --> 1 price for the strip.

Correct, I once told a driver to take Pequanick to Park Ave, it's the fastest route, driver says to me "take Chestnut instead, it's even faster", so I told him, OK, show me.
Got me there 4 minutes faster and 3 bucks lighter on the meter.
He got the three bucks saved and 2 more on top of that for a 14 dollar fare that usually costs 16.50 to 18.00

If the driver does what he's supposed to do, get me there in one piece, doesn't stink up the joint.... he'll get 20 percent of the meter for a tip.

If he's a jackass, he gets nothing.

I tip unless the service really bad. If its only a little bad or average I'll still tip something, it's only money after all and I remember how it was to be a busboy or something.
