Do you tip when they give you a drink?

I forget what year it was... but I think it was Boston and Lakers in the finals? I was at the Mirage sportsbook... had a lot of free drink tickets. I was by myself... watching the game. Waitress came over and I gave her free drink card. On my third card the waitress opened up more and was very friendly... we actually hung out that night....

Point of the story is... during the time when we met... she joked about me tipping her a $1 each time with the free drink pass. I said... WTF isn't a $1 good enough? She goes the going rate is about $2... that's what we usually expect. I started laughing. I said what do you normally get??? She goes I shoot for a $5.00 tip each time. So... it was kind of funny. Then I said... well... do you get guys that don't tip with the free comp? She goes... well... sure... but I won't be back for a LONG TIME with your 2nd drink. Fukking women.


I think $1 is perfectly fine. Maybe $2.00 if her are hanging out in your face... but that's it.

There's no such thing as slot machines being "rigged". every slot machine is set by the casino to pay out on a certain percentage. In other terms every slot machine has a theoretical hold over time. Penny slot machines that people like to play can have as high as a 12-20% hold. If you can find full pay deuces wild video poker (which you won't find on the strip) the machine can have as little as a 0.5% hold. What i'm referencing in my previous post is the game king video poker (Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild).

When playing VP you need to be aware of the pay tables. You can be playing on a machine that has a 5% hold and next to it is a machine that has a 3% hold. You determine this by the pay tables. I'm not going to layout what pay tables you should be looking for, it would take too long. You can visit Wizard of Odds if you want to research pay tables and theoretical return on certain types of VP machines. Unlike certain slot machines you will win or push on around 40% of all video poker hands you play at Deuces Wild so you don't have the typical type of droughts or variance that you experience on a typical slot machine.

I'm not going to sit here and say I've made thousands of dollars playing VP. it's not a game you'll ever get rich off. But between the low variance, the drink comps, the free rooms i get, and travel offers I receive from Total Rewards (Caesars Entertainment), I'm way way ahead. I only started to actually keep track of my play (I've been doing this around 4 years) the last two years and I'm down a few hundred dollars. And it's not like I sit there and play 10 hour sessions every time I visit a resort. I play VP to get free drinks just about every day I'm in Vegas but it's in 15-20 minute spurts. At the beginning of every year I'll go to Tahoe or Reno (I'm in NorCal) and put in a 3-4 hour sessions where i'll put about $5,000 in action and be up or down a couple hundred. This gives me a high enough tier score in the total rewards program to be able to book my comped Vegas trips. I always thought you had to be a high roller to get things comped until my poker buddies schooled me to how to stay in Vegas the entire WSOP virtually free of charge (besides resort fee's but most of my buddies that do stay all summer have higher tier cards that waive the resort fee as well). They do this by playing $25 and $100 VP machines and putting in 100k in action in a couple of hours.

Usually when I'm at the tables I will order a 7/7 and a beer, and give them a $5. I order two drinks because I never know when they will come back. Seems like they only stop by the tables every couple of hours.

When I want drinks I go to the bar. The bars have a bartender obviously. Go to a slow one if you want better and faster service. All bars have the VP on them. These usually have worse odds than the ones on the floor but that's why I max bet a 25c machine to get my comped drinks vs my usual $1 machine on the floor.

Sounds like a plan. Are you referring to the diamond lounge? I never bothered cause I'm not a diamond member.

Been a couple years, but $100 avg hand BJ 4 hours at MGM always did the trick for 4 nights, most food and a show. Win or lose. Maybe it's tighter now?

I haven't been to Vegas in a couple years, but used to get free rooms at the Harrahs's properties, Golden Nugget, South Point and the Old Hilton. Make sure you sign up for casinos players clubs. My buddy goes 6-8 times a year and gets comps all the time. Neither of us are big time, play mostly craps and the sportsbook/horses. It was pretty standard that whenever we went we would have at least 3-4 rooms around town, so we always had a room close if either one of us wanted to take a nap or grab a quick shower.

I remember being at South Point one night, been playing craps for about 6-7 hours and started talking about getting some dinner and the Pit Boss overheard us. He walked over and told us the casino would be happy to pick up the bill, just let him know which one of their restaurants and he would call ahead with reservations whenever we were ready. I thought that was cool of them, didn't even have to ask.

Some places are pretty much lined out what you can get and sometimes all you got to do is ask.

I read what you posted earlier but I thought poker video machines were rigged as well? I thought there were different variations of video poker as well??? Just like different slot machines. For example... every time I walk by a Wheel of Fortune slot or Flammin 7's slot it always seems to hit the most. What video poker machine should I use? All I remember about video poker was Jack's or Better machine???

And a guy told me who use to work on those slot machines... that every pull only pays out 2% rate. Like for every 100 pulls on the slot.... you might win something decent on 2 of them.. You said playing percentages with Video Poker you could be around 97% or higher? That's an amazing percentage.

That slot machine hits a lot for me too or Stars and Stripes. I see a trend where those slots hit hard after midnight almost every time I play them. But I agree with everything you're writing.
