Let's look at Knicks..who are about 5-35. If mike d'antoni was coaching all would say see he's the problem why the team rots. Knicks bring in Phil Jackson and they are beyiond awful. You would think with Carmelo and this front office/coach..they would be maybe 10 games under 500? Instead, they are beyond awful. Think it all comes down to players..who are your players. Did Phil Jackson succeed soley because of Jordan,Shaw,Kobe??

look up Seahawks second half stats

coaching can have a significant impact

i think $$$$ is the biggest obstacle of Pro sports coaching

if you are a professional, you should not need a coach to motivate you

however the quality of your off field life is a reason why you wouldn't give 110%

Driving home in your exotic car to your mansion is gunna happen after a loss or a win

Look at the season the hawks are having....does anyone look at that roster and say it's all the players?

think you need to check the roster they have on defence again pal. And when you have a great qb you're always in the mix. Always.

Ask Falcons fans who have watched Mike Smith botch about 10 games the past few years if it's over rated

Hawks have an average roster and are the best team since the '86 Celtics.

Patriots always a great example in the NFL

Patriots have a top 5 qb of all time. His careeer touchdown to interceptions ratio is 3-1 and is better then Montana. The only QB i could find better then that ratio is...Rogers.

Coaching can make a difference but ultimately players are the key. If you look at pro and college coaches that have won titles and are on top of the all time wins list you will find lists of hall of fame players that played for them. If you cant recruit or draft players that are going to be great then it doesn't matter how good of a coach you are. There are plenty of good coaches in college and pro that don't have the wins or the championships that others do just because they don't have the talent in the program or organization.

The lower the level (high school, college, etc.) the bigger the impact of a good coach. Players make a bigger impact on the professional level. Not to say pro coaches don't matter, but for a few exceptions they get in their own way more often than not. Imo.

Coaching is the most over-rated factor in sports because most coaches are interchangeable and that includes almost all of the "all-time greats." Some coaches can bump up a team a little bit because they know how to relate well and other coaches can screw things up a ton but for the most part, coaching is a non-factor when I handicap.
