Kentucky Wildcats -110 to win NCAA Championship?
Kentucky even money to win it all?

I'm seriously thinking of fading that after thinking it through.

OK, as of right now they are clearly the best college team in the nation.
They are a mortal lock to reach the final 64 in the tournament.
They'll have to win six games in the March tournament to win it all.

For argument sake, let's give them the overall #1 seed and there is absolutely no doubt they'll destroy whoever they play first in the tourney, somebody like a Coastal Carolina or a Hofstra that wins a play in game.

Wildcats would play the winner of the 8/9 game in the second game of the first weekend.
They should advance, but who is to say some team like a Seton Hall or a Kansas State that advances out of the 8/9 game can't shoot lights out against their defense for 40 minutes.

OK, give the Wildcats the win against the winner of the 8/9 game, they still have to sweep the second weekend, to get to the final four.

The way I see it is the bet is, you can have the Wildcats at -110 to win six straight March games in the tournament, and I can have everybody else in the nation for -120.

How is this not a solid future bet?

Tieing tour money for 3 months is no good. You can double your bankroll much faster in other ways.

I'm amazed the field was at -120.

That seems insane to me. I would take the field, in this day and age, over John Wooden's UCLA teams.

numerous other teams have talented players and i would argue have much better coaching. calipari is a master recruiter but year after year you look at his teams from start to finish and you don't see much improvement. They play in a terrible conference so that isn't a plus for them to be challenged the rest of the year where as solid teams from the ACC and Big 12 will be playing tournament caliber teams every night. Plus many of these other teams have hall of fame coaches. calipari has dominated recruiting for the past several years yet has only 1 title.

That's pretty sad that the 2nd best team is +900

Take the field. If my book offered the field at anything up to -150 I would still put about 4-8 units on it. Easy money.

Guys I know UK plays great defense but they go on scoring slumps. They don't have great guard play, which is ESSENTIAL for a national championship. Think about all the previous winners and find one who didn't have a top 5 guard duo/trio in the country.

A team like Notre Dame, West Va, Seton Hall, Utah, Kansas, Duke, Virginia, Wisconsin could certainly get hot a shoot lights out and put away Kentucky in the final four or elite eight.

I bet Kentucky on my book to win it all a few months ago at +450. Now they are -200. They don't off a bet for the field vs Kentucky or I would hedge out to freeroll

How is this not a solid future bet?
if u fade it then you hate money.

only 2 teams have a chance to stop them.

only 2 teams have a chance to stop them.

                                                Arizona Wildcats
                                                Wisconsin Badgers
                                                Bear?
It's mid-January, anything can happen between now and March, one of those Ky studs could get suspended for something stupid, or 8 good teams can come together late February and become great teams (remember UConn last year, they were floundering, than out of nowhere, Napier and Boatwright, and the German started to hit all 3's....

So, for even money, you would bet Kentucky to win it all, and spot the other guy 63 other teams?

                                                Bear?
                                                You are better than that.

Wow can anyone remember the last time a team was basically a pk em at this stage (or even right before the tourney) to win it all? No doubt Kentucky is the best team, but there is so much that can go wrong. You still gotta string 6 wins against some good teams. Let's ignore the first game, but even if you assume DD spreads the rest of the way maybe you have at most:
                                                    -1200
                                                    -1000
                                                    -800
                                                    -600
                                                    -400
That's -105. But would you really assume spreads that high once you reach the final 3 games?
And at this point, what if key guys get hurt?
Field seems like the better play even though KY is clearly the best team.

I'm just trying to figure out... why are books doing this?

Are we the suckers that don't believe in Kentucky winning it all?? And we believe -110 is still too much for this team to win it all?

                                                        Or

Is the gambling world already hammering Kentucky to win it all... and it's already pushed this line higher?

Seems like the smartest wager would be taking FIELD... but this Kentucky team can be so dominant. Scary.

As somebody who is already up over $25k this year and has been a profitable bettor for the last 4 years (after a tumultuous learning process) let me tell you that futures especially as of today is a HORRIBLE wager. In fact its the worse wager you could make today.

In July, a customer at the William Hill sportsbook requested odds on Kentucky going undefeated. The book obliged and gave coach John Calipari's team a 50-to-1 chance to win every game, including the NCAA tournament. Five months later, the top-ranked Wildcats are 13-0 and William Hill is staring at a six-figure liability that keeps growing.

"It's pretty good six figures, too," William Hill director of trading Nick Bogdanovich said of the liability on the popular prop bet. "They keep betting it."

Kentucky defeated No. 4 Louisville 58-50 on the road Saturday, the Cardinals being the biggest challenge remaining on the Wildcats' regular-season schedule. They're expected to be solid favorites in their remaining 18 games and are outright favorites to win the national championship at multiple Vegas sportsbooks. But Kentucky is still an underdog to complete the first undefeated season since the 1975-76 Indiana Hoosiers.
