because they started off unranked in preseason so it's a long way to climb up. they also have 2 losses one of which was to Duke who we know is good but Duke does not get football voters excited and it was in atlanta. the other loss was to UNC who might not finish with a winning record. the wins over miami and pittsburgh will look better as the year goes on and both teams make bowls, but only beat georgia southern (a good team we know but the voters don't) by 4 pts at home and giving up 38 to them, does not look good.

3 tough games left and probably 1 more loss means 9-3 overall record and finishing second to Duke in ACC coastal means you don't get close to the playoff.

however, those of us like me who love paul johnson are happy for him that he is having a nice bounce back year :-)
