Point is if you take Shields out at all, which in itself was questionable at best after 80-something pitchers, you don't bring in a starter on one day of rest after throwing 78 pitches Sunday. Read what Pedro said in the link I posted, he summed it up nicely.

If you have that little confidence in Shields (that he has such a short leash), he never should've been starting the game to begin with,

Then if you're going to pull him early, how do you justify bringing in a rookie who just started two days ago????? Ventura had one day of rest after his bad start on Sunday.
