First, he didnt run out of bounds but instead slid behind the line of scrimmage (literally the worst thing you can do there - since he could have either ran out of bounds or thrown the ball away).

2nd down he missed a throw.

That is something that doesnt get enough attention. The refs took 7 points away from the jets by whistling that play dead. They usually seem to blow those plays dead when they should always let it play out if theres any chance it is a fumble.
