#74Charlie W is looking for a job. Won 1 big 12 game. Pretty good on the resume. But Harbaugh would be the best fit. Former player well liked by the blue nation. And would only have to deal with young people. Instead of the paid too much pot heads. And wouldn't have to see the rainbow billboards on his way to work. Not that there's anything wrong with thatComment -

#78it won't be anyone high profile. so please stop with harbaugh and les miles and fill-in-the-blank-with-anyone-you-heard-of talk. brady hoke came from...
san diego state.
face it, they're not hiring anyone who faced off with their brother in the super bowl two years ago.Comment -

#81it's just not how it happens in most places. every institution with a legacy will immediately think they're going to get some crazy big name, forgetting where they got their last guy. just one example in football recently, tennessee honestly thought they were getting jon gruden. i mean, he had ties to the school! he said something positive about the vols to someone! they get butch jones, and everyone is like, aw man, i am so underwhelmed. forgetting that their last guy, derek dooley, came from underachieving louisiana tech. at the time they were in the coaching search that resulted in derek dooley, lou holtz's name actually was thrown around. it's just not how it works. new coaches most of the time come from stepping stone schools.Comment -

#82i myelf as a memphis basketball fan, john calipari leaves, and we think we can have our pick of the litter. we end up with josh pastner, a young assistant from cal's staff, and a total bum. when we hired cal though, most people forget he wasn't a very hot commodity. you generally have to have a sharp pick as your coach, to put it in terms this board will understand. sometimes an ohio state will luck into an out of work urban meyer. but that is the exception rather than the rule. since i mentioned ohio state, the guy before meyer came from youngstown state. and he won ohio state a national championship. and before urban meyer was the urban meyer we know now, he was the guy who coached utah. in short, best bet is to get the best up and comer and hope to build a legacy with him.Comment -

#86clay travis was pretty convinced, and some otherwise well educated folks i know seemed to be too. probably mostly toothless bubbas like you said, but not entirely by any stretch. people get really worked up during coaching searches.Comment -

#90In 2008, a lot of the Michigan alum wanted Brian Kelly but yet they hired Brady Hoke.
How does that decision look right now?Comment -

#91Maybe Harbaugh is just wishful thinking. But it could happen, see how it goes in SF. He is the best fit for this job, that's why his name is being floated. Look at Pete Carroll, left the pros. Went to USC, then Seattle. Would not be a shocker to see Harbaugh on the U of M sideline next year.Comment -

in 2008, Rich Rod was hired, not Brady Hoke. Brady was hired before the 2011 season.
Kelly has NEVER seriously considered going to Michigan. He wanted the job at ND and he got it.Comment -

#96Yes its Jimmy
Jim Harbaugh is done in San Francisco at the end of this season, even if it ends with the 49ers winning the Super Bowl — or so says NFL insider Jay Glazer.
On Fox NFL Sunday's pregame show, Glazer reported: "I don’t see any way Jim Harbaugh comes back next year as the head coach of the 49ers," reiterating a point that he’s made since Week 1. "Even if they hoist the Lombardi."Comment -
