I was just thinking about this with all of the fantasy reactions/gambling angles discussed after Peterson's suspension. I wonder if Goodell and his ilk even realize that without fans being obsessed with betting on their teams and "owning" their players, the league would probably go belly-up.

i agree if it wasnt for betting i wouldnt ever watch a single sporting event unless i could attend it in person.

Exactly. I said the same thing about steroid use. Fans don't care. There is a detachment factor. They just want their players to put up big numbers and be "gladiators" to help win them money. That's what the MSM doesn't understand.

This is not just the case with American sports every league in the World and the popularity in which they have grown is thanks in part to gambling. Yeah one might follow his/her team but that's about it...
