Good article but I have to ask this....is it being published any place other than here? I hope it gets to general non betting public and the lawmakers and some kinda movement or something could be made of it.Comment -

#11Nice work Swinger...I agree...I don't think the gov't realizes how much cash they could rake in on taxes from gambling until they really took a serious look at the overall gambling arenaComment -

#12I'm all for legalizing sports betting but would it be government run like the Lottery? If so... the lines would likely be absolutely terrible. The Lottery pays $500 for a $1 daily three ticket where the odds are 1 in 1000. That's a 50% payout. Sportsbooks payout on average of 95% or more. If the government ran a sportsbook the way they run the Lottery their lines would be -200 and nobody would play there. If it wasn't government run and the lines were -110(or better) people would soon figure out that they would have a better chance doing sportsbetting parlays then playing the Lottery. The government wouldn't be happy about this. Like I said... I'm all for it but it would be lose/lose for the government so it's unlikely that it will happen anytime soon. The government hates competition... especially when everyone benefits except for them.Comment -

#15Fair enough. Let's assume that the lines would all be -110 like many sportsbooks are. If the newly legalized sportsbooks had parlays people could blindly bet $1 on a 10 team parlay and have a chance to make more money than they would playing the Lottery's daily 3 with approximately the same odds. If they had 25 team parlays like some sportbooks do it would be like winning the lottery. Why would people continue to play the Lottery when they could do large parlays with bigger payouts and better odds? The ONLY reason the Lottery is currently able to exist is because there is virtually no legal competition. If they had any legal competition they wouldn't be able to exist because nobody would buy for instance a Daily Three ticket for a chance to win $500 when they could legally buy another ticket for the same price with the same odds for a chance to win say... $650. Which ticket would you buy? The Lottery/Government doesn't want any competition because if they had any they would have to pay out more than 50% of what they take in or else nobody would buy their tickets. Right now they can payout only 50% because most people don't know any better and most competition they have is illegal.Comment -

Most people don't think like that. Which is why at a casino they have a billion slot machines with people always at them.Comment -

#20I think you can differentiate between fantasy sports and sports betting for year long leagues, but when you look at daily fantasy sports, not sure how you argue there being a difference. Look at baseball, everyone just picks one or two pitchers to "fade" and loads up there team with players from the opposing lineup.Comment -
