Not disagreeing.. at this point too tired to care... but here is an explanation from 5Dimes.

All regular season and exhibition baseball games are considered official after 5 innings of play (4½ if the home team is winning). If a game is called or suspended after 5 innings, the winner is determined by the score after the last full inning of play – unless the home team scores to tie or takes the lead in the bottom half of the inning, in that case, the winner is then determined by the score at the time the game is called. When betting on baseball totals or run-lines, the game must go 9 innings (8½ if the home team is winning).

Mlb Network showed what happened. Rained for something like 15 minutes. The Cubs grounds crew had big problems getting the tarp on the field. Had to use other tarps to cover it, and ruined the infield.

So its been over four hours now, and the reason they are waiting is because they cannot suspend the game. With the Giants 3' games behind the Dodgers, who already won, it would be brutal for them to lose this game 2-0 because the incompetence of the home team grounds crew.

Ask yourself this: is playing the bottom of the 5th going to help the Giants? 4 1/2 innings is a complete Major League game if the home team is winning.

Mlb net said the rule did not apply because it was a human error. The grounds crew messed up the infield. Its either going to be a Cubs win, or they continue playing.

Won't help them in the standings, but for the record the Giants protested the game. A 15 minute rain ended the game because the Cubs ground crew screwed up.

This is a good idea for the future.
If your team is winning after 4 1/2 innings, and you are the home team, just tell your field crew to destroy the infield. Automatically win
You could win around 10 more games a season
