Auburn QB Nick Marshall to miss first play of the game
Auburn senior QB Nick Marshall will not start the first game of the season against Arkansas, HC Gus Malzahn announced.

Marshall was involved in a marijuana possession case this offseason and has already paid fines and taken measures to get back into the good graces of the team's staff. This is a common punishment, but the question is how long Malzahn will hold Marshall out of the game. It was for a different reason, but Johnny Manziel was held out of the first half of the season opener in 2013.

Auburn is opening at home aginst Arikansas. He could probably miss the entire game and it would not matter. I think that Malzahn keeps him out of the game until he needs him, but not more than a half.

This is Auburn. They're likely to say we're not starting him as punishment, have the backup line up and say "down, set" then call a time out and have Marshall under center the next play

knowing Marshall's cocky ass he'll run onto the field and pick up and hand full of turf grass and sprinkle it in the air like Johnny did the money sign last season.

Can't wait to see the Auburn collapse that is coming this season. They are so pumped up and will walk right into it.

I heard he'll be on the sidelines the 1st half (rolling joints).

The bad news for the SEC is that some people consider him to be the best QB in the Conference. If this is the best the SEC has to offer at the QB position, they may not have a team that ends up with one or less losses, and that is no help as far as the playoff committee is concerned.

Anyone who thinks Marshall is the best in the conference is an idiot. That will show this season since Auburn's going to be more of a passing team and he'll struggle. Losing Tre Mason has been the big story in the off season but if you watch Malzahn's offense work losing Jay Prosch at the 'fb' position will be a bigger loss for those big plays made last year. Kid was underrated in what he did to bust open the stats. People forget how lucky they were to win those big games last season from the 'prayer at jordan-hare' tipped TD to the Iron Bowl return and a few others along the way. Nick Marshall's in for a nightmare this season. Better hope he keeps Sammie Coates healthy at WR.

Probably a ploy by Nick to clean out both teams locker rooms in the 1st half. Leave your valuables at home for this one.

Like Bama, Au will always have quality rbs, been that way forever pretty much, they will continue to run the ball down the opponents throats.

Jeremy Johnson the backup is very good. Auburn will still win this game handily. Itchypickle is wrong, Nick marshall will be a great passer. He holds the GA Highschool state record for TD passes. Add D'haquille Williams to the already great stable of receivers including Coates, Louis, Uzomah and it will be very easy for Marshall to be the best in the SEC. Typical over biased bama fan. Just wait and see.

Jeez he will miss the first play. Isn't the kickoff the first play? QB's don't play special teams. That will teach him a lesson not to smoke weed.

He holds the career Ga HS record and played in class A so its not as if he played for a perennial power house division...reason he came to college originally as a Cornerback....UGA's QB this year (Mason) holds the single season TD record still I think in HS but does that make him the best in the SEC?

Say what ya want but look into the stats and think back to the games last season - passing was 1900 yards or so and rarely even passed for more than 200 per game 0 the ones he did are aided by the 73 yard 'prayer at jordan-hare' pass and a few others. It's not being over biased, no doubt otherwise I'm the biggest Bama homer on the forum but this one is based on what is reality with him and Auburn. Johnson is okay but not Tre Mason and as I posted before, losing Prosch in that Gus scheme is going to hurt. Look for him to be forced to pass more and Coates will no doubt make some great plays for him but will not be enough to make a huge difference. Tricky schedule as as well with some road games....wait for it.

SEC is down at Qb this season. Hard not to be after so many good ones left last season.

This means the Backup QB will come out for the 1st play and get a delay of game penalty. Then out comes Nick Marshall to lead auburn to a 28-17 victory
