Are the Phillies the worst run organization in baseball?
How many sunk costs do they have now?

Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said Wednesday that first base will be a "day-to-day thing" going forward.

It's a nice way of saying Ryan Howard has lost his grip on the starting first base job. Howard and Darin Ruf will platoon based on matchups and who is swinging the hotter bat, and it appears Sandberg is resolute in his willingness to see what Ruf can do over the next two months. CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury reports the Phillies have considered the possibility of releasing Howard if he can't be moved in a trade. The Phillies owe Howard, who is hitting .224/.305/.377, $60 million guaranteed over the next three years.

Meh I wouldn't say worst run. They invested in Ryan Howard big time and he basically flopped straight after now they can't get rid of him.

All their starting pitchers pretty much did the same (guys seemed like league leading aces at certain times but now look like they pitch at Coors every week looking at their stats). Absolute disgrace of a pen though there's no excuse for that.

The sad thing about Philly fans is most support different cities when it comes to certain sports. Knew a guy that cheered for the Flyers and Eagles but was Yankees fan. Another friend loved the Phillies but rooted for the Steelers. They have no identity in that city; Philly is the bastard child of New York and Boston.

                            Mets

They are paying Bobby Bonilla for the next 22 years They were so strapped for cash that instead of paying 5.9 million, they are paying him almost $30 million. 8% interest all the retirement anyone needs Wilponzi scammers. Jason bay anyone? Signing 47 year old Julio Franco to a 2 year contract? They pay too much money for over the hill players and get stuck with their shitty contracts after injuries diminish their talent (see Oliver Perez, Luis Castillo). Horribly run franchise.

                                            Marlins are worse.

Could have locked up Stanton 2 years ago for 6 yrs/$85 million but because they waited there is zero chance they will sign him now. They'll throw a mickey mouse offer at him in the winter so they can tell the fans, "SEE WE TRIED!!!!!!"

                                            Cheap, bush league organization.

Mo $$$$ Jimmy better watch his back. Amaro may try to Tonya Harding him tonight

Jimmy Rollins' $11 million option for 2015 will vest with two more plate appearances.

The only thing that would potentially keep the option from being guaranteed would be Rollins ending the season on the disabled list, but even then the option will kick in if a doctor deems him ready for Opening Day 2015. Rollins, 35, is having a solid season, batting .243/.326/.398 with 13 homers, 45 RBI and 19 stolen bases. The veteran shortstop has 10-and-5 no-trade rights but indicated last month that he could be willing to waive them should the Phillies have a firesale.

Howard not the same player since he tore his Achilles. Actually kind of sad to watch. This guy was a beast from 2006-2009.

Love the comments from all the "experts" here about Philly Sports and the city in general. Other than my college years I've lived in Philly all my life. Most loyal & knowledgeable fan base in the country. Yeah there are bad areas here but this is a great city to live in.

Lol at them not trading anyone. They should be in the same boat as Boston......fire sale.

At least get something for Lee while he still has value. He's getting up their in age.

They spent a lot of money and mortgaged the future for a World Series now their paying the price for it. There are a lot of teams that would make that trade off, I'm sure the Cubs would trade away every prospect for the next 50 years if it would guarantee the a championship now.

Here is a sellers market with teams clamoring for any decent position players.... a great opportunity to get decent value for Rollins, Utley, Byrd, and others..... and he does NOTHING. Maybe he can sign a couple more 35yo well past their prime veterans to 5 year $100M contracts.....
