If you are a consistent handicapper and want to maximize your ROI in sports, then, in almost every case...yes it is wrong to do that.
I've posted many times on this topic, mostly as friendly advice but will say now that unless you know your edge exactly, jiggling your bet size will cost you money.
Those who think they know their edge might use some kind of Kelly Criterion, but, again, this is not a very wise investment tactic as edges constantly change, from dull to sharp and back again.
JJ is most certainly not employing Kelly, but he is still, in my opinion, making a mistake.

This applies less to baseball odds as it does to the multi-unit bettors who bet one unit all week, then suddenly bet five units or so.
Win or lose, in the long run, only the big bets will count.

Bettors...keep your RISK flat, that causes the bookie's risk to fly around, and bookies hate that.
