a. It's Brazil! Brazilians love and demand good football, if things are going slow and boring, trust me, brazilians will let you know.

b. Tropical weather. When there's heat and humidity involved, players tend to wear out quicker and also trend to lose more their focus, than if they're playing in a cold and low humidity day.

I do expect to see the totals going down in the round of 16 and further since it's more about getting a 1-0 lead and securing it since that's enough to go to the next round...but who knows? this world cup has been totally unpredictable.
