Novak had not been good on clay 5 years ago at all. His game on clay has improved greatly in the last 5-6 years. Today IMO a healthy Novak is better on clay than Nadal.
Watch games more carefully. A healthy Novak would rocket all Nadal's short balls near the baseline and would make him run. Nadal's balls barely passes the service line. In the last years Nadal was playing better on clay.
