#9Billy Walters was always a crook
80% percent of his money came from illegal activities not sports betting

#13With Billy's past record he will be doing some serious time. At his age that is quite a burden. Just imagine how many times he's cheated but never caught. They will make a example of him.

#21Well, being high profile like Phil is he should have known better to be playing golf an rubbing elbows with a known gambler like Billy. Was anything going to come out good for Phil in the long term doing that? We all now Phil likes to gamble, that's no secret. I have no problem with that nor should anyone else. It's his money, he should do what he wants with it as long as he doesn't try to influence games. Pretty hard to do in golf, I mean, it's an individual sport, you win or you lose big money if you don't win. Billy on the other hand, has influenced games. No proof of that, just my personal opinion. He's had officials in his back pocket in the past is the rumor. He's also done some real shady real estate deals in Vegas. He's been trading options in the market for quite some time and knows quite a few CEO's and major investors. So, no surprise he's being investigated like he has a couple of times in the past. Money laundering being one of them. So, why wold Phil hang out with this guy? Money, plain and simple. As if nobody was going to notice (nobody really did until now), and now he faces public humiliation and has to lawyer up to avoid prison. Sad.Comment -

#22This story sounds like HUFF and PUFF to me. The description of the article is very vague. There are many people who get inside information on deals. Why are they looking at these 3? To me... there's more to the story than trading. If it involves wagering... different story. But I was expecting a major breaking development. This is just a huff and puff article. Nothing to see here.Comment -

#24Huge Mickelson fan and have bet on him countless times but this is horrible and major news. What was he thinking? If you are an active golf player and you are playing golf with one of the largest american sports bettors, this is crazy. Can you imagine if an active nfl, nba, mlb or hockey player were playing golf with billy walters?
Fifa is on the warpath about gambling and fixes in the sport with the largest gambling event in the world coming up this month, but what would be the punishment be if an active soccer player were buddy/buddy and playing golf with a huge gambler? walters won the pebble pro am with Fredrik Jacobson and you have to wonder about these people that run golf, what will the golf governing bodies do anything about this. Every other major sport would do something major.
If he were a collegiate athlete and he even had lunch with billy walters, much less golfed regularly with him you would in a world of pain and your school in sanctions. Rick Neuheisel, the University of Washington football coach, was fired for just participating in a small March Madness pool with neighbors!!
Why would an active and still competing golfer maintain a relationship with a known and controversial sports gambler?Comment -

#33wayne allen root a political force? "Money talks" and steve stevens is pretty obvious of how poor the programming is on CNBC at times but this is comical.
How would nba big wigs feel if active players like a kevin durant was playing golf with billy walters? What would the punishment be if an active mlb or nfl player was playing golf with billy walters and maybe the object of an investigation of the fbi and sec? Why would mickelson take this risk??
pretty good article I came across about sports gambling and billy Walters in vegas from reading these articles
