Nah man i doubt they even make the playoffs. They have really underachieved so far this season...
I mean they are better than the way they have been playing but i just think they have too many weaknesses.

They have one legit pitcher...they couldnt win it all with top to bottom legit pitchers on top of the best hitters, no reason to think they could do it now

No way. I'm a huge Ranger fan and they have been bit by the injury bug in the worst way. This is not their year. Martin Perez and Matt Harrison done for the year, and possibly Prince too pending his visit to the doctor. Profar and Soto haven't played at all and they will get them plus Holland back too late to keep up with the A's. You're burning money putting a future on them.

I dont think they can win it. But baseball is weird and it happens alot where a team you thought had no chance at the end of May or June gets hot and ends up winning it. Id say if you really have a strong feeling they make the playoffs, and are getting unreal odds, put something on it. I just cant see them making the playoffs in that division, although Oakland is known for fast starts and slow finishes, and LAA is just unpredictable

Oakland one playoffs series win since the early 90s if Im correct. overacheiving franchise in the sense that they are a small market who always competes for the postseason but rarely does anything once they get there

Yeah Oakland runs a quality team out there everyday but they are not built for the playoffs. As Sonny Gray gets better and the young hitters get better they may actually win a playoff series this year though.

The thing about the AL this year is we basically know nothing we didnt know preseason. We knew Astros would suck (they do) We knew Detroit was good (they are), and we knew the rest was a crapshoot. Boston is disappointing, and Oakland a little surprising but everyone else is a couple games above or below .500.
Basically the standings are like this
Oakland
Detroit
Everyone else
Houston
So I like the fact that OP is trying to find value in those middlish teams to make a run. Bottom line though is it's early... I'd put futures on teams that have 3 solid starters, and a respectable lineup that's healthy. Look for a team that's underacheived so far but has potential. Cleveland, NYY, LAA, KC come to mind. Not sure on Boston's price, but they could turn it around too. But when its all said and done, Detroit is the heavy, heavy favorite to rep the AL in the WS. If you can find two teams you like and hedge it to break even if Detroit makes it, I think thats a good bet.
example (I have no clue on the odds)
if Detroit is 2-1 to win the AL, put 100 on them and put 100 on two other teams with long odds. I think thats a smart bet right now. Id easily put 100 on the Tigers, Red Sox, and Indians, if Im gtd to break even if Detroit makes it and make decent bank if one of the other two do.
